We have not done this in some time, but at the beginning of the year, we thought it would be prudent to give a short overview of our Hedge Fund Manager return data set.
- We cover a large number of Liquid Alternatives, with a focus on Macro, CTA, and Crypto Managers.
- Throughout 2023, we improved our coverage of Liquid Alternatives in other Hedge Fund strategies.
- We added more than 100,000 monthly return estimates for managers and more than 2,000 funds including beefing up our graveyard of past CTAs.
The origin of the Database skewed us in the direction of Futures-based strategies. Including the graveyard, we have coverage of closer to 3.7k CTA and 1k Crypto strategies. There are an additional 1.3k strategies across other liquid Hedge Funds.
We process more than 14,000 different return streams, consisting of more than half a million database points. We strive to be transparent in terms of survivorship, when a manager starts reporting, and when they are closing. Moreover, we keep track of changes to returns, correlation matching, drift, and updates. We hand classify a large number of strategies to align with our Hedge Fund strategy taxonomy.
On a snapshot basis, the Monthly Database contains 3469 different managers, representing 6823 different investment strategies. For the current reporting month, 1708 managers have reported returns. For the prior month, we have 2393 live managers.
This database is among the cheapest on the market, we focus on returns, and do not carry a large amount of qualitative data making it a good match for quant-focused investors. We also provide more assistance for the less quantitatively included investors.
Over the last three calendar months, we have added 624 new strategies to the database. These may not always be unique new funds, but may also be connected to return streams that already exist in the database.
